Why study Foundation Programmes?

The Foundation Programme is a one-year pre-university qualification designed to prepare SPM students and O-Levels equivalents for undergraduate studies at NSU.

Various courses (subjects) will enhance your academic knowledge, expose you to the latest developments in the respective areas of study and foster your critical thinking skills. Simultaneously, it also sharpens students' presentation skills and English language professionally.

What are the advantages of pursuing a Foundation programme?

• You will learn the courses that are related to the undergraduate program of your choice at NSU.
• It offers the shortest for you to progress into the undergraduate program within 1 year. With the flexible program structure, you may complete your Foundation program at your desired pace of up to 2 years.
• The assessment is more variety which usually a combination of coursework, continuous assessment, project and final examination (but the assessment methods and weighting are different from course to course).
• Foundation students can experience the campus learning environment before your undergraduate programme.
• There are three intakes in a year, i.e. January, April, and September. You can decide to enroll in the intake when you are ready to start your education journey at NSU.

Is this Programme for me?

You should consider the Foundation programme if you already know the field of undergraduate study. The Foundation programme will provide you with solid knowledge and learning skills essential to meet the challenges of your preferred degree.

However, we design the Foundation programmes so that most skills are transferable to other fields of study. This will keep your option open and gain entry into other degree programmes (subject to meeting the programme entry requirements). This open option is important as many SPM and O-level students can only confirm or change their choice after they have completed their Foundation programmes.

How many types of Foundation Programmes and how it leads to NSU degree programs?

There are 2 Foundation programs, available at both the Malaysia Campus, London Campus, and Japan Campus.

1. Foundation in Science (New Programme Structure), which consists of core courses and elective courses in:
• Biological Science stream
• Physical Science stream (either Engineering Science or Technological Science)
2. Foundation in Arts, which consists core courses and elective courses in:
• Management and Accountancy stream
• Arts and Social Science stream(further breakdown to 3 subcategories, i.e. 'Art and Design', 'Chinese Studies' and 'Social Science')

Upon successful completion of the Foundation programme, you proceed to the corresponding undergraduate programme of your choice. Note: Some undergraduate programmes have certain CGPA requirements such as MBBS, Dietetics, Finance and others.

NSU provides over 70 undergraduate programmes in a variety of fields of study. Each degree offers a dynamic curriculum, practical learning opportunities in industries, and an engaging teaching and learning environment. At NSU, you have countless opportunities to participate in many academic and co-curricular campus activities, such as overseas student exchanges, industry training and visits, community and volunteering programmes, and soft skills development programmes, for you to have a meaningful and memorable education journey on campus.

With a recognized qualification by NSU, you can easily enter the workforce or continue your study locally or abroad. Northsea University has collaborated with our international partner universities to confer our students with postgraduate degrees from two universities through a mutual credit recognition arrangement.

Note: For students with SPM, O-level, or equivalent, you will first complete a one-year Foundation program before proceeding to the undergraduate degree of your choice.

Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)

Nursing, the largest health profession, plays a crucial role in determining national health outcomes. It is a unique profession, it has both the component of arts and sciences. The art of nursing is more than just knowledge; it is doing. It bridges information from nurses to patients in a skillful way. On the other hand, the science of Nursing includes the utilization of critical thinking to make sound judgments. All these elements give nurses a significant wealth of knowledge and expertise in caring for the patient. Nursing is a rewarding career with high demand nationally and globally.

NSUs Bachelor of Nursing Programme is approved by the Malaysian Nursing Board and is nationally accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. This program offers the ideal preparation for the students future, with a robust curriculum in the core sciences and humanities, and extensive experience in evidence-based practice. This program provides tertiary education that creates graduates who will develop a holistic approach to patient care and an ethical framework for effective decision-making. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Malaysian Nursing Board Examination to be licensed for practice as a Registered Nurse.

Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)

Computers are becoming part of our lives, changing virtually everything from the objects around us to the ways in which we communicate, travel, work and play. Computer Scientists shape the future by developing computational techniques, design systems and develop solutions to build advanced civilization. Computer Science has now become a key enabler for discovery and innovation in many other fields, making it a highly relevant programme of study.

This program aims to prepare graduates who are technically competent in the design, development, and implementation of computing systems. Students will be equipped with a suitable mathematical background and solid computing knowledge for them to excel in the areas of software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. Students will be trained to possess strong analytical and critical thinking to solve problems by applying knowledge, principles, and skills in Computer Science.

Last but not least, students will be provided with entrepreneurial skill and exposed to real world challenges to broaden their horizon and career prospects. The programme offers 3 areas of specialization in Computer Science for students:

Setting yourself apart from the crowd can be challenging in todays competitive job market. Becoming proficient in your profession and staying on top of market trends will therefore position you competitively within your line of business.

At NSU, we understand that different people have different needs and have designed 2 types of postgraduate study mode, namely

• Postgraduate Diploma/Masters by Coursework (involve the study of a specific set of core courses, a selection of electives and prepare a project)
• Masters by Mixed Mode(involve the study of a few key core courses, research methodology course(s) and prepare a dissertation)

Postgraduate students will have an opportunity to join the Mutual Credit Recognition Programmes from Northsea MoU Partner University. The students under the mutual credit recognition program will be recognized as regular full-time students of both institutions and shall only pay Tuition Fees to the Home University. The students who fulfilled both requirements from the Home and Host University will be awarded the Degree from both universities.
